I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you opening your house to us this weekend! We all had a wonderful time. The house and property are just stunning!...so much so that we are looking for property in the area. Grandma wants to move there instead of her retirement home.

We had a FANTASTIC time at your house. It was perfect for us though way more room than we needed; perhaps we'll come back sometime with more people. What a lot of space, and what lovely space!

We explored parts of the Gorge that neither of us had ever been too, so that was a real treat, and we want to do more of that.

Here are some of the many things we appreciated:

Tasteful comfy furnishings, including lots of great towels. Sound system(s). Good lighting! Wonderful kitchen with lots of great ingredients one never finds in a condo or time share! Beautiful land, wonderful water. Quiet street. Access to so many natural wonders! Lots of wood and a very efficient effective woodburning stove. That it was a "real home" not a cookie cutter place.

The white lilacs are just coming and fragrant, and the rhody is getting ready, as are the irises. We did half of the wagon trail hike; gorgeous yellow flower bushes, with more just getting ready to pop all over the hillside; a few lupines and many more to come. We took old hwy 30 from The Dalles to Mosier and took the first hike off of that, handled by the Nature Conservancy; oh, that was fantastic. We had great meals at Solstice in Bingen and Celilo in HR. Loved Maryhill Winery and missed the Maryhill Museum closing by 5 minutes; must go back; also need to return to Stonehenge, which I remember seeing about 30 years ago.

We would like to recommend your place to friends, and we hope to return ourselves. Thank you again SO much for making your place available, with such generosity and trust!

Just wanted to let you know that we are back from the house and had a terrific time. As I said in the guest book, my husband was particularly impressed by your obvious appreciation of wine ('77 port!) and the hops growing in your yard---he has several here at the house that are about as far along as yours!

On your recommendation we checked out Solstice Cafe (John and Regina say hi), Everybody's Brewing, and Wind River winery (owner was out of town but we had a nice chat with the summer intern), among lots of other outings. It was a lovely week :)

"We stayed at Husum House for one weekend in June (09) and absolutely fell in love. It's a great house with so much character. The rooms are clean and cozy and the setting is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Husum is nothing but a few roads in size and the house sits on a perfect spot of the river. Hood River, OR, a wonderful place to eat, drink, shop, and engage in nightlife, is just 15 minutes away so you truly do have the best of both worlds. In the summer we were able to hike nearby (Sleeping Beauty is a tough one but wholly worth it in the end!), go whitewater rafting (Wetplanet is just across the street!), and sun on the deck, but I'd imagine the winter would allow for a similar amount of nearby activities including snowshoeing and Xcountry skiing.

Matt is incredibly friendly and accommodating. He is very quick to respond, easy to communicate with, and very hospitable. We look forward to another visit!"
